Artful Insights: Maynard Dixon
$10.00
Monday, October 7, 2024, 3:00 p.m.
Maynard Dixon is famous for his remote desert landscapes, but his work goes beyond beautiful scenery. He was a noted illustrator and mural painter. He experimented with various styles of art including post-Impressionism, and Cubism. He even wrote poetry. Because he traveled and lived throughout the West and Southwest, he captured people and their authentic interactions with the land and animals around them as perfectly as the vast skies and majestic vistas. Dixon’s love for the American West is evident throughout his work. He painted many facets of early 20th-century life in the West, including images of Indigenous people, Hispanics, early settlers, and cowboys. Dixon also painted atypical subject matter, like downtrodden men in the Great Depression. Through his powerful command of color, light, and shadow, he created breathtaking works in subdued colors and is now considered a master artist of the West. Come learn about Maynard Dixon and his incredible life at this Artful Insight.
