Description
Charles Schreyvogel came out west in the early 1890s because his doctors told him the dry air would help with his chronic asthma. During one of these trips, he met and befriended William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody. At that time, Schreyvogel was making a living creating commercial illustrations and portraiture. His relationship to Cody and his trips west changed the focus of his artwork to cowboys, Native Americans, and horses. Today, he is known as one of the most popular Western genre artists in America, specializing in historic paintings of the United States’ Cavalry.
