Hours & Admission

The American Museum of Western Art (AMWA) is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 am – 4:30 pm. Please note that the museum stops admitting new guests at 4:00 pm.

AMWA also offers school tours and private group tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, by appointment only. Please visit our Group Tours Page to request a school or private group tour.

The American Museum of Western Art is in the heart of downtown Denver in the historic Navarre Building, located at 1727 Tremont Pl, Denver, CO, 80202.

The American Museum of Western Art does not have on-site parking and does not offer free or discounted off-site parking. However, there are nearby meters, parking lots, and garagesInformation on parking locations and pricing can be found here.

Guided Tours: $10 ($7 for students, seniors, and veterans)
Private group tours (by appointment only): $10 ($200 minimum).

Please note that the museum does not allow children under 8 years of age.

As a Blue Star Museum, AMWA offers free Self-Guided Tours to active-duty military personnel and their families.

We also offer free Self-Guided Tours (up to four people) to MY Denver Card holder and EBT participants.

School Tours and Outreach & Accessibility Tours are free (by appointment only).

Guided Tours are normally $10 but are discounted to $7 for students, seniors, and veterans.

No, the museum does not have a café or a restaurant; however, there are many within a two-block radius of AMWA. Please note that food and beverages, including water, are not permitted in the galleries. These items can be left with a staff member at the complimentary coat check before entering the galleries.

Tickets may be purchased online by selecting a time and date from the calendar, or at the door with a debit or credit card. Guided Tours are limited to 15 people, so we recommend purchasing those tickets before your arrival. Please note that the last entry is at 4:00 PM.

Museum Guidelines & Policies

Children under 8 years of age are not permitted in the museum. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults can supervise up to four children.

No. Children under 8 years of age are not permitted in the museum, even if they are carried. AMWA does not allow strollers.

Yes, service animals are permitted in the museum.

Food and beverages, including bottles of water, are not permitted in AMWA’s galleries.

No. Photography of all kinds is prohibited at AMWA. This includes phone cameras and video recording devices of any kind.

Aside from small purses and fanny packs, AMWA does not allow backpacks or bags to be carried in the galleries. Please check large items, including bags, backpacks, and coats, at the complimentary coat check.

If you purchase tickets to either Guided or Self-Guided Tours, you can leave and come back again on the same day. We recommend notifying the front desk if you want to leave and come back so they note your intention to return.

The last entry for new or returning visitors is 4:00 pm. AMWA closes at 4:30 pm.

Guided Tours are 90 minutes to 2 hours.

There is no time limit on Self-Guided Tours; however, the museum closes at 4:30 pm. An audio guide comes with Self-Guided Tours and runs approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Artwork on Display

AMWA is a Western American art museum that offers an intimate exploration of over 300 paintings and sculptures by more than 180 artists. The artwork varies in style and includes pieces from the early 1800s to the present day.

The Anschutz Collection is on permanent display. The paintings and sculptures on display are rarely changed out. The museum only displays the Anschutz Collection and does not have special exhibitions.

Self-Guided Tours come with a complimentary audio guide device. Docent-led Guided Tours are available at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm on open days.

AMWA also sells a museum catalog, Painters and the American West: Volume II, which can be purchased online or at our museum gift shop.

Accessibility Information

AMWA is wheelchair accessible. There is a ramp on the right side of the building that leads to the front door. Once inside, there is an elevator that goes to all the gallery floors. The museum has one wheelchair available for guest use inside the building.

There are several benches and chairs throughout the museum for our guests to stop and enjoy the artwork, or take a rest.

Yes. AMWA offers organized low-sensory and accessible group tours. Staff members can customize an experience for your group. Please complete the Outreach Group Tour Form to request low-sensory or accessible group tours.

As the Museum only holds and displays The Anschutz Collection, we are not actively acquiring other works.
