The Peale family of artists was America’s first artistic dynasty. Patriarch Charles Willson Peale was famous for his portraits of illustrious Revolutionaries like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin, and for founding America’s first museum in Philadelphia in 1786. He encouraged and trained his 17 children to study the natural world, create beautiful things, and follow their dreams. AMWA has works by two Peale children, Rembrandt and Titian Ramsay. This Artful Insight will explore the Peale family legacy and its contributions to Western American art.
