Museum Hours & Admission
The American Museum of Western Art (AMWA) is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 am – 4:30 pm. Last entry is at 4 pm. Tickets may be purchased online or at the Museum with a debit card, credit card, or smartphone payments. The Museum does not allow children under eight years of age.
Self-Guided Tours
Explore the Museum at your own pace on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during open hours. Audio guides are included with admission. Self-Guided Tour admission is $5 per person.
Guided Tours
Docent-led tours are available every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 am and 1 pm. Guided Tours are approximately ninety minutes long. Guided Tour admission is $10 ($7 for Seniors 62+, Students with valid ID, and Veterans).
Available Discounts
As a Blue Star Museum, AMWA offers Free admission to active-duty military personnel and their families with a valid ID. To reserve tickets for a Guided Tour, please email or call the Museum (303) 293-2000. Reservations for Self-Guided Tours are not necessary. Please note, the Museum does not allow children under eight years of age.
MY Denver Card holders receive Free Self-Guided admission to the Museum for up to four people. Reservations are not necessary, but the cardholder must present MY Denver Card upon entering. Please note, the Museum does not allow children under eight years of age.
EBT participants receive Free Self-Guided admission to the Museum for up to four people. Reservations are not necessary, but the cardholder must present EBT Card upon entering. Please note, the Museum does not allow children under eight years of age.
AMWA is a proud participant in VISIT Denver’s Mile High Culture Pass. The 3-Day Mile High Culture Pass allows mobile device pass holders to visit eight attractions for one low price over the course of seventy-two consecutive hours.

Museum Entrance
The Museum’s main entrance is on the lower level, down a short flight of stairs on the left side of the building, or down the accessible ramp on the right side of the building. Look for the black and white sandwich board sign and ring the doorbell when you arrive. The Museum’s security and guest services staff will let you in.
Parking
Parking is not provided for museum visitors. There are numerous public parking lots and garages in the immediate area, but the Museum is not able to provide any parking validation. Visitors can find more details about parking locations and pricing at BestParking.com.
Public Transit
AMWA is close to a number of RTD light rail and bus stops. The closest light rail stop is 18th St. & California, about three blocks from the Museum. Visitor Guidelines
The Museum does not allow children under eight years of age
Children under the age of eight are not admitted to the Museum due to the fragile nature of the collection and the intimate environment in the galleries. Children under the age of sixteen must be accompanied by at least one adult for every four children. All children must be supervised at all times by their accompanying adults.
Museum Rules
- No Backpacks or Large Bags. Backpacks and large bags are not permitted in the Museum. Please check large items including bags, backpacks, and coats with our complimentary coat check.
- No Touching. At all times, visitors must remain at least two feet away from all artworks and must not touch any paintings, sculptures, books, parlor furniture, or displays.
- No Photographs. Visitors are not permitted to take any photographs inside the Museum at any time for any reason. This includes cell phone cameras and video recording devices of any kind.
- No Food or Beverage. No food or beverages are permitted inside the Museum.
- No Smoking. Smoking is prohibited anywhere inside the Museum or immediately outside the entrance.
- No Firearms. Firearms are not permitted in the Museum.
- No Pets. Pets are not permitted in the Museum, except for service animals.
- The Museum does not allow children under eight years of age. Children under the age of sixteen must be accompanied by one adult for four children.

What are the museum’s open hours?

Where can I find parking for the museum?

Guided Tours: $10 ($7 for students, seniors, and veterans)
Private group tours (by appointment only): $10 ($200 minimum).

School Tours and Outreach & Accessibility Tours are free (by appointment only).
Guided Tours are normally $10 but are discounted to $7 for students, seniors, and veterans.
Does the museum have a café or a restaurant?
No, the museum does not have a café or a restaurant; however, there are many within a two-block radius of AMWA. Please note that food and beverages, including water, are not permitted in the galleries. These items can be left with a staff member at the complimentary coat check before entering the galleries.
How do I purchase a ticket?
Tickets may be purchased online by selecting a time and date from the calendar, or at the door with a debit or credit card. Guided Tours are limited to 15 people, so we recommend purchasing those tickets before your arrival. Please note that the last entry is at 4 pm.

Is there an age restriction?
Children under eight years of age are not permitted in the museum. Children under the age of sixteen must be accompanied by an adult. One adult can supervise up to four children.
Are service animals permitted in the museum?
Yes, service animals are permitted in the museum.
Can I bring food/drink into the museum?
Food and beverages, including bottles of water, are not permitted in AMWA’s galleries.
Do you allow photography in the museum?
No. Photography of all kinds is prohibited at AMWA. This includes phone cameras and video recording devices of any kind.
What is your bag policy?
Aside from small purses and fanny packs, AMWA does not allow backpacks or bags to be carried in the galleries. Please check large items, including bags, backpacks, and coats, at the complimentary coat check.
Can I walk around the museum, leave for lunch, and come back?
If you purchase tickets to either Guided or Self-Guided Tours, you can leave and come back again on the same day. We recommend notifying the front desk if you want to leave and come back so they note your intention to return.
The last entry for new or returning visitors is 4 pm. AMWA closes at 4:30 pm.
How long does it take to see the museum?
Guided Tours are 90 minutes to 2 hours.
There is no time limit on Self-Guided Tours; however, the museum closes at 4:30 pm. An audio guide comes with Self-Guided Tours and runs approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Artwork on Display
What types of artwork are on display?
AMWA is a Western American art museum that offers an intimate exploration of over 300 paintings and sculptures by more than 180 artists. The artwork varies in style and includes pieces from the early 1800s to the present day.
How often do the exhibits change?
The Anschutz Collection is on permanent display. The paintings and sculptures on display are rarely changed out. The museum only displays the Anschutz Collection and does not have special exhibitions.
How can I learn more about the pieces on display?
Self-Guided Tours come with a complimentary audio guide device. Docent-led Guided Tours are available at 10 am and 1 pm on open days.

Accessibility Information
Is the museum wheelchair accessible?
AMWA is wheelchair accessible. There is a ramp on the right side of the building that leads to the front door. Once inside, there is an elevator that goes to all the gallery floors. The museum has one wheelchair available for guest use inside the building.
Are there places to rest throughout the museum?
There are several benches and chairs throughout the museum for our guests to stop and enjoy the artwork, or take a rest.
Does the museum offer low-sensory tours?
Yes. AMWA offers IDD and Sensory-Friendly Visits of the Museum weekday upon request, depending on schedule and staffing. Please visit the IDD and Sensory-Friendly Visits page for more information.
Does the museum take donations or purchase new artwork?
As the Museum only holds and displays The Anschutz Collection, we are not actively acquiring other works.
Can someone at the museum tell me what my artwork is worth?
