Charles Russell fell in love with the Western lifestyle. He obsessed over the trope of the cowboy as he sketched and observed many of these men during his early days in Montana working as a cowhand. Russell maintained this passion for the West and the Western lifestyle, capturing both subjects throughout his career as an artist. As the New York Press said in 1904, Russell “will remain a Westerner of the old school to the end.” Come explore the life and artwork of a true Westerner in this Artful Insight.
