Drawing from the influence of European Impressionism, many American artists applied this modern style of painting, characterized by loose brushwork and vivid colors, to the American landscape. During this Artful Insight, we’ll discuss and compare four major artists of the American Impressionist movement: John Henry Twachtman, Childe Hassam, John F. Carlson, and Edward Henry Potthast. We’ll discover how these artists achieved their unique effects by examining their Western landscapes in the Museum’s Collection.
Guests may arrive early to reserve their seats. The talk will begin at 3:00pm and last approximately 1 hour. Artful Insights are limited to a small number of visitors and advance reservations are highly recommended, as programs often sell out. Tickets are not refundable for sold-out events.
